Merrick Route

  1. Start at the Bruce's Stone car park (NX 415 804)
  2. Follow the road downhill, over the Buchan bridge and past the waterfalls
  3. You'll come to a stile on your left which takes you onto a path on the side of Buchan Hill, and then follows the Gairland Burn towards Loch Valley
  4. From there, continue to follow various faint paths on the west side of Loch Neldricken and Loch Arron and then head for the south-west tip of Loch Enoch
  5. Then you just have to slog up Redstone Rig to the trig point on Merrick (NX 427 855)
  6. From Merrick, head over the Neive of the Spit (careful of the steep ground!) to Benyellary (NX 414 839)
  7. Take the path that leads initially south-west off Benyellary and follow it down through the trees to the Culsharg both (NX 415 821)
  8. From there, follow the path south by the Buchan Burn back to the car park
