Derry Cairngorm, Ben MacDui and Carn a' Mhaim Route

  1. From Derry Lodge, go west past the wooden mountain rescue hut and cross the bridge over Derry Burn
  2. Ignore the main path up the glen and head for the south-east ridge of Carn Crom. Follow the path up over the fence stiles and through the crags, heading north-west to the summit
  3. From Carn Crom, head first north, then north-by-west to the summit of Derry Cairngorm
  4. Head roughly north-north-west towards Loch Etchachan for about 2 kilometres, then follow the path south-west, turning west later, up Ben Macdui
  5. Go south-east from the Macdui summit to the top of Allt Clach nan Taillear and then descend to the col (NN 986 974)
  6. Walk south-south-east to the summit of Carn a' Mhaim
  7. From the summit, go to the cairn on the 1014m spot height then descend south-west to the track by Allt Preas nam Meirleach
  8. Ford the Luibeg Burn (or cross at the bridge) and head home on the main track through Glen Luibeg
